The landmark was built as an original entrance to Buckingham Palace and later became a victory arch proclaiming Wellington's defeat of Napoleon. It is crowned by the largest bronze sculpture in Europe, depicting the Angel of Peace descending on the 'Quadriga' of War.

Visitors can enjoy glorious panoramas over London from the balconies of the landmark. They can also explore the Royal Parks, watch the Household Cavalry on their way to the Changing of the Guard, and learn about the history of the area.

While it is not necessary to book tickets in advance, visitors can always get the best price and guaranteed entry by booking online ahead of their visit. Members can book their tickets for free.

The landmark underwent repairs and interior conversion to create an exhibition space. A new statue of Wellington was commissioned and erected next to the arch. English Heritage took on the responsibility for the long-term care of the landmark.
