Visitors can expect to find a beautiful 54-acre green space with a long history as a focal point in the local community. The park offers entrances on Ward End Park Road, Washwood Heath Road, and Sladefield Road. There are playground facilities, well-laid paths around the lake and open green spaces, a boating lake, and opportunities for sporting activities such as basketball and tennis.
Ward End Park was once medieval open fields and later formed the grounds of Ward End Park House, dating back to 1759. In 1904, Birmingham Corporation bought the land and opened the park to the public. The park's Grade II-listed two-storey house, notable for its Stucco-style exterior, still stands surrounded by trees and colourful flower beds.
The Friends of Ward End Park, established in 2007, have delivered many projects and events. The Ward End Lakeside renewal project is bringing improvements to the park, including access around the park and links to neighbouring communities. The Dolphin Women’s Centre, providing education, training, employment, and support, is based by the park’s lake.
With funds from HS2, recent additions to Ward End Park include a walk by the brook, a woodland walk, and other improvements. These additions aim to enhance the visitor experience and encourage community engagement to prevent neglect of the park.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of recreational activities at Ward End Park, such as walking, jogging, cycling, and even trying out sports like squash, tennis, and archery. The park also offers a women's only Tryathon event, providing opportunities for fitness and social interaction.
